The Coefficient of Friction requirements we've all come to know and love are changing, with new requirements coming as soon as 2014!

The current standard for measuring the coefficient of friction on tile comes from the ASTM International C1028 test method, and is commonly referred to as the Static Coefficient of Friction (SCOF). Basically, this is taking the surface of the tile and pressing directly down on it, and then testing the friction.

Starting at the beginning of 2014, the industry will be changing over to the new method of testing called Dynamic Coefficient of Friction, or the DCOF AcuTest.

The main difference between testing methods is the DCOF AcuTest uses the BOT-3000, which is a continually moving friction tester, which provides a better test for actual footsteps walking on a wet surface, rather than a stationary object.

The DCOF AcuTest is a new realistic method of testing as the results are more probable to be repeated, while better measuring the COF of very smooth surfaces.
